Yo Sè Que Vive Mi Señor

Hola Queridos!

Les amo muchìsimo.  Where to begin for the week... Always the hardest part.  Weather here is starting to heat up.  Just great weather lately which makes for more enjoyable time prosilyting in the streets.  And I don`t know how to spell proselyting.  I can`t spell anymore.  Spanish and English is just all mumbled in my head during these emails. haha Anyway, with this great weather I am starting to experience some nice missionary tan lines.  I got a nice white thick line on my wrist from my watch, and a difference between night and day on my arms.  So now I am officially a missionary. haha This week was really good.  We have had progress with our investigator David.  He is down to 3 cigarettes a day, two weeks ago he was smoking 40.  He plans to quit by the end of this week. Yeah!!  Overcoming addictions is possible, with a fervent prayer and lots of effort, anything is possible with Christ!  The Church came out with addiction recovery videos, The 12 Steps to Change.  I invite you all to watch it!  It is incredible.  Anyway, David is doing great and we are seeing how the Gospel is changing his life.  This week we had an activity in the church. Noche de Tacos!!!  We ate a ton of tacos and everyone who came to the activity, came to church on Sunday so it was successful!!  Elder Clayton and I shared a really cool message amongst all the tacos.  We shared Luke 24 v1-6.  Mary goes to the tomb to anoint body of Jesus but she finds that his body is not there.  Angels appear to her and ask `Why do you search among the dead He that Lives?`  Christ Lives!!!  Why do we search for happiness in the things of the world when we have eternal happiness through our Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ?  He is the light and the life of the world, He is Eternal.  Search for the things of Christ!!  See how missionaries work?  We lure in the crowd with tacos and then we hit them with the spiritual food too.  hahaha

Well everyone, I love you all.  I hope you all have a great week and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! Stay Safe, Stay Warm, Stay With Christ.

Un abrazo Fuerte,

Elder Maynard

Esperanza Round 4

HOLA!!!

Well, guess what? I´m staying in Esperanza!!! WHoooo!! And I am still with Elder Clayton.  Maybe I´ll spend my whole mission here huh?  But that’s all good because I LOVE ESPERANZA!!!!  This past week was really good.  We have a new investigator named David, and he wants to be baptized!!!  I don’t have any problems with that.  His baptism date is Nov. 6th, so we will see if he makes it.  He knows a lot about the gospel and he has already read the whole Book of Mormon.  Pretty cool right?  He just came out of nowhere, one day just showed up to church with his wife that is a less active member.  Interesting how the Lord prepares people.  We have been searching for new investigators for 3 months and then one shows up at church one day.  Tender mercies from the Lord!

Also this week we had a baptism in Esperanza again!  The wife of our Ward mission leader finally decided to get baptized.  Esperanza is growing slowly but surely!  We had two investigators assist the baptism.  David and another named Marcela so that’s awesome!!!  Marcela is another Investigator that wants to get baptized, but she is juntada.  Living with a guy but she’s not married, but we are working with her!  So yes, there is hope in Esperanza.  I am excited to be here for another six weeks.  I have seen this area grow so much and I love it.  We are beginning to see the fruits of our labors, so that is always rewarding!  But we have to keep on working anyway and having trust in the Lord.

I heard a quote a week or so ago that really touched me.  ¨Joseph Smith never saw the rebuilding of Zion.¨ Joseph Smith is a perfect example of trusting in the Lord.  He gave his life for the gospel and never saw the full extent of his work.  I´ll admit I was down a little bit because we haven´t been having much success, but when I heard this I got excited.  If Joseph Smith can give his life for the work and not reap the benefits, then I can plant seeds all day in Esperanza.  I love being a missionary. It is awesome!!  Keep moving forward in the faith.  Have an eternal perspective like Brother Joseph and everything will be alright! The Lord is by our side!  Have a great week everyone!  Love you all!

Love,

Elder Maynard

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEK AMANDA !!!!

Còmo están queridos?

Well everyone, this could be my last week in Esperanza. Ahhhh it’s crazy. I´ll be writing you all next Tuesday with the big news.  dun dun dun.  Pero Bueno, this week was really good.  There are sister Missionaries in Esperanza too, they work in the north and we work in the south.  But they had a baptism this week!  Whoooo!!  There is Hope in Esperanza!  Some really good things came out of it. 1. Elder Clayton and I got to be the witnesses for the Baptism.  Really neat experience, there is a first time for everything right?  2.  Our Investigator Nicholas came!!! WHoooo!!!  Preach My Gospel says that if a person first sees a baptism they are more likely to be baptized themselves.  Let´s go! We also watched the Restoration Video while we waited for the people to change out of baptism clothes.  Nicholas said he liked it a lot.  YES!  He says he feels like Joseph Smith looking for an answer.  Well my man, I´ll tell you what, THIS is your answer. haha Sometimes it´s hard to respect the agency of people as a missionary but we get through it.  All in all a great Saturday of Baptism.

But the work continues in Esperanza!  We continue to work hard.  It is hard to find people to teach, but the Lord is always preparing people.  We are trying to find the chosen ones.  Los Escogidos!!  I feel like we have taught the Plan of Salvation a lot this week and I just want to share my gratitude for the Lord´s plan for us.  How great is the mercy of our God?  He has prepared a way for us to return to Him and live with our families forever in Eternal Happiness.  And it is all made possible through our Savious Jesus Christ.  I´m so grateful for the Plan of Salvation, that it gives me direction and hope.  I´m so grateful for my Savior.  He picks me up when I am down.  He walks beside us in this life and He wants us to be happy and enjoy it.  I am so grateful and honored to be a missionary and that I can carry the name of Jesus Christ on my chest every day for these two years.  I´m grateful for this Restored Gospel, and it is so true.

Also Happy Birthday to my Beautiful little sister Amanda!!!!  I hope you have a great week :)  I can´t believe you are 17.  Blows My mind and makes me feel old hahaha Also happy late Birthday to my sweet little cousin Hadley and My wonderful loving Grandma Maynard:)  Love you all tons!!  Have a great week.

Un abrazo fuerte,

Elder Maynard

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKSON!!!!!

Hola todos!

It´s my little bro`s birthday!! Whooooo!  Hope you have a great day Jackson and that you are happy! haha Miss you bud!  I bought a bag of pepas and an alfahor to celebrate but I know you guys are going to celebrate much better than that haha.  This week was really good.  We had a zone conference on Tuesday and the whole mission is having trouble finding new investigators so we focused on that.  References are the best way to find nuevos but it is really hard to get references from members.  So all you baptized people out there.... give references to the missionaries! haha We talked about a scripture in D&C 61: 3.  I love it.  I´m not sure how it goes in English but something like ¨Don´t allow people to remain in the incredulidad` sorry I used a Spanish word anyway haha  But I love it.  We´re not going to let other people remain in the darkness while we walk in the light.  We are going to bring them with us!  Missionary work baby!  Also this week we had some progress with investigators.  Nicholas is continuing reading y praying.  He says he is searching for the truth.  You´ll find it my man if you keep doing what you´re doing!  We had a great lesson with Jessica.  She says she lacks faith.  Oh ye lackers of faith... why? haha She is a great person and has faith, but doesn´t know it.  An interesting situation.  But we bore our testimonies that God loves her, and her faith will grow as she keeps exercising it.  We invited her to read Alma 32, and I invite all of you to read it too!  It is awesome!!!  Also our main man Jose Godoy went y found out some information on how to get divorced!!! He is starting the process a little bit.  Awesome!  He knows the church is true, but his divorce is holding him back from being baptized.  Maybe he´ll be baptized here in a few months.  My comp and I were way happy.  And of course this week CONFERENCE!! WHOOO!  I´ve never enjoyed conference as much as I enjoyed conference this weekend.  Wow it was incredible.  I loved Elder Holland´s talk on Saturday about mothers.  It made me want to give my mom a big old hug! (Call to brothers and sisters to give my mama a big old bear hug for me)  haha Love you mom!!!  Also Pres Uchtdorf´s talk in Priesthood session was incredible.  We have to be bold and valiant as Daniel of Old.  Defenders of the faith!  Wow I can´t describe how pumped up I was, amazing.  I hope you all enjoyed conference as much as I did!  I know the church is true and God speaks to us through his living prophets!  I love you all and hope you have a great week!  Jackson, party on my bro,  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Love you stud.

Un Abrazo,

Elder Maynard
